DAWWN
RETIREMENT IS NOT THE END, IT IS ONLY THE DAWWN OF A NEW BEGINNING.
Dawwn is an online learning platform for retirees. Many people experience a loss of identity when transitioning out of the workforce and into retirement. Dawwn is designed to help facilitate this transition by giving retirees the tools and resources to learn new things and stay engaged.

12-month intensive research, design, and entrepreneurship project. Culminating in a pitch presentation to a live audience of over 100 people.
The Baby Boomer generation totaling 70 MILLION people has been the backbone of our nation’s workforce for generations.
By the year 2030, all Baby Boomers will have reached the age of 65.
THE PROBLEM
People transitioning into retirement often experience a loss of identity. For many in the Baby Boomer generation, they have relied on their careers for their sense of purpose and social needs. This loss of identity connected to retirement comes with downsides, especially since many of the retirees we interviewed echoed the sentiment that:
"Staying busy and invested in activities, whatever they are, is important to a successful retirement.”
Often people transitioning into retirement know what they would like to explore but lack the tools and knowledge of how and where to begin.

HOW MIGHT WE…
combat a loss of identity related to retirement by providing retirees the tools and support to learn new things?
THE SOLUTION
Dawwn is an online learning platform that engages retirees through content that is curated and designed to help them learn new things. Dawwn takes a senior-focused learning approach.
Our methodology is built on giving retirees foundational skills for learning new activities. We provide our users guidance on where and how to begin, support for continued learning, and personal investment into their success.
Unlike our competitors, Dawwn is designed specifically for older learners. We do this by leveraging big text, contrasting colors, and limited animations.
THE RESEARCH
We conducted dozens of user interviews, surveys, and a 2-week long Wizard of Oz exercise to understand the lives and feelings of retirees. Additionally, we fine-tuned our understanding of the problem space through a variety of whiteboarding exercises.
Key findings:
Older generations want to be technologically connected and included in emerging tech solutions.
Having the support and encouragement of others is motivational and leads to more success when learning something new.
Providing the steps to get started is one of the most important aspects of being able to begin a new activity or project.
Staying busy and engaging with others leads to a more fulfilling and healthy retirement.
